Bowls district presentation

15/05/2008 11:06:00 AM
THE Monaro District conducted its inaugural district presentation day at Adaminaby last Saturday.

In perfect weather 58 bowlers took to the greens for a morning's social bowls before enjoying a luncheon and then the presentation to the winners of all of season 2008 championship events.

On hand to make the presentations was the Member for Monaro, Steven Whan MP. District president Jim Madden introduced Steve Whan to the gathering and the MP in his response said how he enjoyed getting away from the rigours of parliament and meeting the people of his electorate at social gatherings such as this.

Steve Whan then presented the trophies to all of the winners for 2008.

The winners were - mixed pairs Daphne and Mark Buckley Cooma; fours Peter Marsicano, Troy Pastro, Ross Russell and Peter Caldwell Cooma; triples Ignazio Mondello, Dave Pastro and Troy Pastro Cooma; state pairs Dave Pastro and Troy Pastro Cooma; president's reserve pairs Mel Storta and Wayne Lodge Cooma; senior pairs Ian McGufficke and Bob Weston Jindabyne; state singles Eddie Potter Adaminaby; president's reserve singles Peter Caldwell Cooma; senior singles Neil McGregor Cooma; champion of club champions singles Eddie Potter Adaminaby; champion of club champions pairs Wayne Lodge and Mel Storta Cooma; No.3 grade Pennant Adaminaby; No.5 grade Pennant Cooma No.1; Monaro Shield Adaminaby.

The presentation day was enjoyed by all who attended and district president Jim Madden expressed his desire to see the event become a permanent part of the district calendar and that it be shared around all the district clubs.

The district program has now been completed but as one door closes another opens. That opening door is the Zone 7 championships and first up are the zone pennant finals. Both the No 3 grade and No 5 grade finals will be played at Dalmeny on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25.

Monaro will be represented by Adaminaby in the 3s and Cooma No.1 in the 5s.

The senior singles and pairs, president's reserve singles and pairs will be played at Dalmeny on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6.

The state singles, pairs, triples and fours will be played at Lake Canjola on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10.

The champion of club champions singles and pairs will be played at either Malua Bay or Tomakin on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21.

A decision on the venue will be made in the near future.

Participants in the above play-offs should note that multiple entries could cause the play-offs to go to an additional weekend.

In the state events, that is very much the case as Cooma's Troy Pastro is an entrant in three of the four play-offs.

Bowls this coming weekend sees the Cooma president's day held on Saturday 17th and Jindabyne's president's day on Sunday 18th.

Here's wishing both clubs an enjoyable day's bowls.

Bowlers are also reminded that the Zone 7 Inter District matches for the Patron's Shield will be held at Tathra on Saturday/Sunday July 19/20.

Besides playing for the Patron's Shield these matches also serve as selection trials for the Zone 7 side to contest the State championships in September.

The Monaro District side will be selected closer to the date and it is hoped that all bowlers will put their names forward for the chance to be selected in the district side for 2008.
