BEC future still unknown

13/05/2008 10:53:00 AM
THE future of the Snowy Monaro Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) is still uncertain following discussions at the regional level.

Capital Region BEC manager Steve Jamieson said following a recent board meeting that he could not speculate on the future of the Snowy Monaro BEC until the Federal Government finalised and allocated its contract and funding in July.

"The meeting, held on April 28, was not as conclusive as we would have hoped," Mr Jamieson said.

"The board has decided to wait to look at the key performance indicators in the Federal Government contract's for us, before we make any decisions about the Snowy Monaro BEC," he said.

Member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly said he hoped the Capital and Snowy BECs could work together no matter what the outcome of the Federal contract.

"I'm not sure what's in the contract at this stage, but I my hope regardless of what it consists of that they can both work together harmoniously," he said.

Cooma will have a voice at the Capital Region BEC after Cooma-Monaro Shire mayor Roger Norton was elected to the board there last month.

"We're delighted to have him on the board, he is held in high regard in the region and has been noted as a competent small business man by the board members, who know him well and have worked with him on other projects already," Mr Jamieson said.
