Around Cootamundra

OFF TO WESTERN AUSTRALIA

A farewell was held at the Cootamundra Country Club on July 12 for popular local Jeff Bristow and hosted by his partner Di Williams (here pictured). There were over 150 family and friends in attendance to say FAREWELL to Jeff as he moves to a new and exciting venture in Western Australia.

Jeff has gone to Port Hedland in WA, working for Fortescue Metals Group Ltd on the railway site there laying a major track programme. Fortescue is a major company venturing towards having their first ore on ship in the near future with most of their construction sites including rail, mine and port already 70 percent complete.

Fortescue is now planning to build 250 houses in Port Hedland to accommodate its growing workforce and families.

CHEERS & GOOD LUCK JEFF, glad you enjoyed a terrific Coota send off (give and take the tears shed), you will be sorely missed BUT everyone wishes you the very best in your NEW venture in life.

FATHER GEOFF & FRIENDS

Further to our story on the splendid day had by Fr Geoffrey Meagher and ‘friends’ at the home of Mrs Michelle Baldry on Monday last, here picture is Fr. Geoff and his guests from India, taken on the front steps of “Wallendoon” Wallendbeen.

The group has now returned to India after having had a marvellous time touring Melbourne plus a trip down the Great Ocean Road.

DAY OUT

The Cootamundra Day Care group really did enjoy their day out on Monday last.

With genial gentleman Clarrie Power driving their bus they set off together with Day Care co-ordinator Lorraine Hatley for lunch (Christmas in July) at the Bethungra Service Station and Cafe. Former Coota girl Prue Ingold and her husband are ‘at the helm’ of this Bethungra establishment and all in attendance voted lunch out there as first-class!!

Our Coota residents met with the Day Care Groups from Junee and Temora (all in all Prue did lunch for 45). The day has been voted as up there with ‘the best’.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

Tomorrow Mr Norm Donnelly of the Nursing Home celebrates his birthday. Do have a happy day Norm.

AND on Sunday July 27 Mrs Beryl Williams of the Cootamundra Retirement Village

will celebrate her birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

MARGARET’S ACHIEVEMENT

Former Cootamundra girl Margaret Mansour has recently graduated with a Masters Degree in Criminology. Margaret, who is the daughter of proud parents Bev and Les Southwell, is currently working for the Bankstown Council as their Community Safety Crime Preventions Office. Congratulations Margaret.

JEFF’S PASSING

Many locals will be sad to hear of the passing of former Cootamundra gentleman Mr Jeffrey Price. Jeff, who was aged 75 years, passed away on Monday last July 21 at Harvey Bay, Queensland.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Bev and children Michael, Sue and Cootamundra lady Bronwyn Lake, of Harley Avenue.

FELLOWSHIP DAY

This afternoon at 2pm the Combined Churches Fellowship Day will take place at Christ Church Anglican Church. Special guest speaker will be former Cootamundra lady Mrs Sally Padgett who has worked in missionary services in Nepal.

Sally is the daughter of Helen and Pat Alexander, now of Wagga.
